Awesome sweater, hat + bonus project

Betsy and Brandy were in the shop the other day...they took their time thinking through possible color combinations for a sweater that Betsy's mom is making Brandy for her birthday (lucky Brandy!).

Here they are with piles of yarn thinking through all the possible color combinations (if you are lucky enough [Brandy!] to have a custom sweater/hoodie made, you want it to be perfect...)

Here's the sweater...

And the hat that Betsy is making Brandy (did I mention that Brandy is lucky?)...

And here are all the colors in a big pile: Cascade 220 Superwash Sport in 4 shades of blue, purple, gray, and black and Debbie Bliss Prima in blue and gray for the hat.

And here's Betsy's bonus project: a skull and crossbones hat she is making out of Berroco Comfort for a fundraiser for Dana Farber Cancer Center. Did I forget to mention that Besty and Brandy are in the WFA (Women's Football Alliance) and they play for the Boston Militia (the skull and crossbones is their logo), Boston's very own women's football team? How awesome is that? Next game is home against the NY Sharks on April 16th. Go Militia!!!!!!

Weaving + knitting

This is Skipp. He is very crafty. Project number 1: hand-woven (on Skipp's very own table loom, see below) scarf made from one skein of gorgeous lavender Giselle yarn from Classic Elite.

Here is his table loom in action! (Don't get me started on his beautiful woven landscapes...)

Project number 2: cute hat called Lidsville from the Son of Stitch n' Bitch book (we have it here at JP Knit & Stitch).

Skipp is working on attaching the brim to the hat. We can't wait to see him sporting it soon!

Kathy picked a ball of Party ribbon in reds and gold and green...

Not very long after she walked into the store with a lovely crocheted necklace..

So easy (according to Kathy) + high impact!

Here is a quarter yard of the Anne Kelle fabric Urban Zoologie and a quarter yard of a lightweight orange cord...

And here we have a fun and tactile cuddly blanket!

Horai Scarf

Remember Jamala? She has been working on a beautiful lacy scarf, the Horai Scarf, and stopped in last week to show us her progress.

Well she came in on Friday to show us how far she had come and sat down at our worktable and finished it up (I have a great video of her knitting the horai stitch, but I'm having technical difficulties uploading...grr....).

And here it is: beautiful, purple, lacy, and lovely.

Knitting baby + sewing toddler projects

We're highlighting two projects today: one knitting for baby and one sewing for toddlers.

Nancy came in for yarn for a baby blanket...she picked out Spud & Chloe Outer Bulky in a luscious chocolatey brown and soft blue.

Here she is with the completed project (blanket pattern from Ravelry).

So pretty!

Now for a sewing project: Here's Liz with Molly. Liz wants to make Molly and her cousin matching dresses...

She picked out a contrasting set of 100% organic Mod Gull and Dots fabrics in rust and mineral from Birch.

Et voila! A fun popover sundress (free downloadable pattern from Oliver & S) for the lucky Molly and her cousin Francesca.

Eye ball blue

Meet Thalia. She's a knitter. And she thinks we're the best store ever. Well, the feeling is mutual: we think she's pretty great and she made the best sign ever.

(We love that she gave the yarn color names...)

New Category: Dawn's amazing projects

This is a diagram of a needle case with an attached notion bag.

This is the fabric and yarn for the needle case and notion bag. The fabric is a gorgeous dec weight by the Japanese designer Isso Ecco.

This is the MIT scientist and her very helpful partner who designed the needle bag and notion case. (We were very impressed by the diagram, but were a little unsure how the whole thing would work.)

Well, look what walked into out store two days later (yes, two).

Isn't it amazing? That's what a little pre-planning and a background in logical thinking will get you folks.

Science + creativity + pretty colors + graphic patterns = a needle case to die for.

File under: Yes, we were inspired (can she make one for us?).

ps. check out Dawn's first JP Knit & Stitch project (the bag she is wearing over her shoulder) at our NEW JP Knit & Stitch Ravelry page.

After.

Thanks to Nadia and Zayna for their photos and general craftiness! We have been so inspired by all the creative things that people are making, especially the youngsters...

First JP Knit & Stitch knitting project!!!

As all you knitters out there know, knitting is wonderful and amazing but it takes some...time. We opened our doors last Friday and it's now Thursday and we've seen lots of completed sewing projects but not yet a knitted project with our yarn.

So for all you knitters out there, here's a sneak peak of a JP Knit & Stitch yarn project in action:

Here's Jamala. She came in yesterday and researched a pattern in our nifty resource area (see below). She choose a gorgeous pattern on Ravelry for a floral lacy scarf...so delicate and beautiful, called the Horai Scarf by roko. She's using the Giselle yarn in a plumy purple color.

Here's a shot of our resource area. Yes, that's an ipad we have available to research free patterns on the web. Don't you just love the 21st century?

Here is a sneak peak of the scarf in action. Jamala is winging her way to San Francisco as I write this. Happy knitting across the country! We can't wait to see you and your scarf when you get back.

More finished projects!!!

This is Olivia. She came in on our opening weekend and bought fabric for a kids playsuit and curtains.

This is Olivia today. She finished the boy's playsuit (for her nephew in faraway Winnipeg) and it looks beautiful.

I just love the camper tent contrasting fabric (pattern is Oliver & S Tea Party Playsuit).

And here is Olivia with her next project: kitchen curtains and handkerchiefs (with the super soft Kaffe Fassett shot cotton). We can't wait to see it!

Nina la Reina rules

We love our customers and their projects...

Here's Arelen's fabric batch that she bought the day we opened...

...and here are the completed pillows she finished the following day. Did she pick the fabric to match that beautiful dog?

We can't wait to see what Arlene makes with the other project pieces...
