Imported voluteers...

Kathy: imported from Shelbourne, Vermont.

Cathy (left): imported from South Burlington, Vermont and Eleanor (right): imported from Cape Cod.

And yes, they are old school enough to know how to use the French Knitter without reading the instructions.

Isn't it cute? They worked tirelessly for hours on end and got so much done! Thanks volunteers!

We are hiring!

(Awesome postcard is courtesy of the knitting blog Habetrot and shows a Corsican knitter circa 1902)

Can you do it all? Are you a passionate knitter and sewer? Do you want to work at JP Knit & Stitch? We are looking for part time employees to help us out in the store. Our ideal candidate is an experienced knitter and sewer (yes, we need someone who does it all!) and enjoys working with people and their projects. If you are interested, please send us an email telling us why you would like to work at JP Knit & Stitch, along with your resume (if you're like us and you haven't updated your resume in a while, just let us know what you've been up to in the last few years). We will provide you with a detailed job description.

We are also looking for additional teachers of knitting, sewing, and crocheting. If you have always dreamed of inspiring others with your love of craft or if you have been teaching for years, we would love to hear from you.

Email us at: genevieve@jpknitandstitch.com

ps. we promise we won't make you carry baskets of yarn on your head...

JP Knit & Stitch helpers

We had lots of friends and helpers at JP Knit & Stitch yesterday--for which we are truly grateful! Eliza stickered lots of yarn balls and Maggie made us a beautiful sign.

Zachary and Russell organized lots of buttons.

Some of our helpers were more helpful than others...

This is the category of helper that we at JP Knit & Stitch like to call eye candy. There were two of these at the store yesterday. Both of their mothers were extremely helpful...between feedings. My those babies are hungry. Yes, we got to hold the babies and yes, they smelled baby fresh and lovely. This one I couldn't help but put into our--still unpacked--box of Manos del Uruguay yarn. Doesn't she look cute?

Maura was our IKEA specialist. She put together two chairs for us. Apparently, the stool for the kids area was very complicated.

Here it is finished.

Some of our helpers were very tired and took a nap. Thanks to all of our helpers!

Yarn Wall

Once we put tiny inventory tags on ALL the yarn balls and skeins, we get to do the fun part: putting yarn on the wall. Here is a rhapsody in Debbie Bliss blue...

...and here is the baby/kids yarn wall coming together.

ps. The blizzard that just hit Boston is seriously cramping our style. Boston public schools are closed and we are at home entertaining our children. Not stocking JP Knit & Stitch shelves as we had hoped. Sigh, another day, another delay. But it sure is pretty outside! I think I'm going to be tempted to take some photos...Happy crafting to those of you lucky enough to be cosy and warm and working on a project.

Stocking, stocking

After a much needed break, we are back and hard at work stocking shelves. And we are making progress!!!

We're having a lot of fun unpacking boxes from the far reaches of the world, such as these gorgeous, fair trade, hand crafted and dyed yarns from Manos del Uruguay. We get to pick these giant skeins up and then we...

..twist them into happy, portable packages...put a label on them...and then we get to...

...hang them! So pretty...

Sigh, but we also have to do a lot of this....
